I GOT YOUR SECRET RIGHT HERE
How many of you are familiar The Secret? It was originally released as a DVD 2006. The trailer for the movie The Secret says, “The secret was buried, The Secret was coveted, The Secret was banned, The Secret was suppressed,” all with very dramatic music playing. They make it sound like it’s a recipe that was written down and lost for centuries until Rhonda Byrne found it. The trailer goes onto say, “…for the first time in history the secret is revealed.”
In 1905 William Walker Atkinson wrote the book, Thought Vibration or the Law of Attraction. That was pretty long ago and you probably can’t find this book at Barnes and Noble. The Secret hasn’t been, “suppressed’” it’s just been out of print.
“You can do anything you think you can. This knowledge is literally the gift of the gods, for through it you can solve every human problem.”
That’s not form The Secret it’s from The Secret of the Ages by Robert Collier written in 1926 – He said this 80 years before Rhonda Bryne discovered it. Napoleon Hill spent 20 years researching his book, Think And Grow Rich which came out in 1937
“Change Your thoughts and you change your World.” – This was said by Norman Vincet Peale in The Power of Positive Thinking 1952. Even Jack Canfield of Chicken Soup fame has a book, The Success Principles by Jack Canfield, 2005.
The secret hasn’t been, “hidden,” it’s just been in books that are harder to read. Rhonda Bryne has managed to take the concept of the law of attraction and to dumbed it down to the lowest common denominator. You don’t even have to know how to read … The Secret was a DVD before it was a book.
So what is the law of attraction? For those of you who do not know, the Law of Attraction says you can ask the universe for anything you want and the universe will provide it. You can be, do or have anything you want. ANYTHING? So I called it the Law of Attraction, the judge called it stalking.
The Law of Attraction is simple and can be summarized in a single sound bite. Often it rhymes. “Whatever the mind of man can conceive it can achieve. “What you resist, persists.” “Beer on whiskey mighty risky, whiskey on beer…” no, that’s something else.
Buddha said, “What we think we become.” Henry Ford said, “Think you can, think you can’t, either way you’ll be right.” And of course there is, “I think I can … I think I can, I think I can.” The Little Engine That Could. This is all the law of attraction.
I have no problem with law of attraction, I have personally seen it work. I am remembering the Gambino Twins in ’79. The universe was very kind to me that day. My problem is with the juvenile approach presented by Ms. Byrne and the people in her movie. Because nowhere in that movie does anyone ever say you got to WORK to get what you want. You want to get something, YOU HAVE TO TAKE ACTION. If there is a law of attraction it should be against the law to do nothing. The universe is more likely to give you what you want if you get off your butt and do something.
Do you think the universe has a sense of humor? I do. I think the universe has got to be laughing every time some guy who is like 80 pounds over weight stands in front of a mirror and says, “I am a thin man, I enjoy life, I eat what I like and still maintain this magnificent physique. The universe has got to be laughing so hard the milky way is coming out of it’s nose
The Secret tells people they can take a piece of paper and write their desired weight on it and then tape that piece of paper on a scale. Now they can now eat anything they want and they will reach that desired weight, because every time they get on the scale that is what you see.
Okay, even if we only use 10% of our brain, the part we do use, knows it’s a piece of paper taped onto the scale. The Secret would have you believe you can just burn away the fat while you sleep. Sure you can loose weight while you sleep. It’s called a coma!
If you’re falling out of an airplane, the Law of Gravity, TRUMPS The law of Attraction.
